Schools & Education in Temecula Valley
How the valley's school districts are organized, and what families ask before they move.
By Heath Clendenning

Schools are the single most common question families ask when they consider moving to the Temecula Valley, and for good reason. The area's public school districts are a large part of why families relocate here from denser parts of Southern California. Here is how the system is organized and what to look into before you choose a neighborhood.
The valley's school districts
The region is served by several public school districts, each with its own boundaries. Which schools your children attend depends on your home's address, so it is worth confirming the attendance area for any specific neighborhood before you commit.
- Temecula Valley Unified School District (TVUSD): serves Temecula and surrounding areas.
- Murrieta Valley Unified School District (MVUSD): serves much of Murrieta.
- Lake Elsinore and Menifee-area districts serve the northern and western edges of the valley.
How attendance areas work
Public school assignment is based on your residential address and the district's current boundary maps. Boundaries are periodically adjusted, and some schools operate at or near capacity, so always verify the current assignment for a specific property rather than relying on a neighborhood's reputation alone.
What to research before you move
Beyond ratings, families tell us the things that matter most day to day are commute time to campus, available programs, and the feel of a specific school community. If schools are driving your move, build them into your home search from the start; it is far easier than trying to transfer later.
- Confirm the exact attendance area for any home you are considering.
- Look at programs and specialties, not just headline ratings.
- Factor school commute into your neighborhood choice.
